First Baptist Church of Waukegan
sponsors new start
|

Pastor Mike Pimpo & family |
I first met Mike Pimpo when he came to
Grace Chapel’s former office to pick up a refrigerator we had donated to
a local charity. Mike related to me his vision of establishing a food
pantry and starting a new church based on serving the needy of the
community. It was a divine appointment because Grace was looking for
someone to take over our lease following our merger with First Baptist
Church and our facility suited Mike’s needs perfectly. After much prayer
we agreed that a partnership would be mutually beneficial and that
Mike's church plant, Life of Faith would become part of the CBF family.
The opening
chapter of Life of Faith and the food pantry is filled with stories of
God's provision. Mike already had a warehouse packed with food to stock
the pantry. Everything in the building was donated from the shelves and
freezers to store the food to paint on the walls. |
Volunteers have been steadily flowing as well, including some with
experience in running food pantries and other non-profits. The pantry,
known as People Lending a Hand (PLAN), is serving nearly 100 people a
day; a number that is expected to increase.
A small
clothes closet has been started and there are plans to offer budget
classes and other services to meet the needs of the community.
